League of Legends has tons of champions that will get you scratching your head because they come from different classes.
Understanding what a champion excels at goes a long way to leveling it up and making it more reliable on the battlefield.
Some are more designed for long-range combat, while others show limitless potential for close-range assaults. Although there’s a wide array of champions, it’s better to match them to your play style.
Remember that each hero is endowed with special abilities. But most importantly, each is best suited for a specific role because they have strengths and weaknesses that make them fit for it.
In general, LoL champions are grouped into tanks, assassins, mages, fighters, supports, and marksmen. Here’s the breakdown:
How many champions are in League of Legends?
There are 157 champions right now, with new ones expected to join the lineup in the future. They’re divided into 6 major categories, as previously mentioned.
1. Fighters
You can count on these heroes for close combat not only because they deal a lot of damage to opponents but also because they have high hit points that allow them to last longer in the battle.
2. Marksmen
The second type of champions excel at ranged attacks because they have the weapons to engage enemies beyond hand-to-hand combat.
However, this luxury comes at the cost of lower defensive power. Most of their abilities center around the great damage they cause to targets.
As they gain more strength, these heroes can bring massive destruction to the enemy base. They’re sought after by players mainly for their remarkable damage output, rather than their abilities.

3. Mages
Mages are also in a league of their own when it comes to ranged attacks, but their close-combat performance shouldn’t be taken for granted.
Mages combine extraordinary reach with crowd control to pin down targets from afar. They are experts at casting spells to unleash magic damage. But because of this, they also depend on things that let them show off this great power.
4. Supports
Supports are heroes with the specialty of applying buffs to team members. At the same time, they can adversely affect the opposing team’s combat performance.
But things can go downhill quickly when they have to square up directly against the enemy. Close combat is just not their thing, but at least it’s compensated for with formidable supporting stamina.

5. Assassins
The name pretty much encapsulates what they’re good at. These champions can obliterate the competitors quickly because they’re built for this purpose.
They master the art of fight or flight response. When the enemies can turn the tide with their wrecking damage, they can flee quickly to stop taking more hits.
6. Tanks
Tanks can change the course of the game by being primary defenders for their feeble friends. They serve as impassable shields by continuously taking hits from the opponents.
Tanks often march down first to distract the enemies, leaving the ranged heroes behind to launch attacks from a distance. When these champions are greatly powered up, they’d be indestructible.
When combined with their abilities to control crowds, they can slow down the game until the ADC is done with their job of farming.

How many champions in LoL Wild Rift?
At least 40 champions make up Wild Rift, which belong in classes similar to the PC version. For those unaware, Wild Rift is the mobile version of League of Legends that you can download from the Play Store and App Store.
There are some noteworthy differences between the two games. Besides a smaller group of heroes, Wild Rift also features a small map, albeit one that is a direct replica of the original.
The downsizing helps players traverse the landscape faster. In terms of controls, it has a bunch of buttons to execute various functions. There’s one for auto attack, four for skills, two for spells, and more.
As for the skins, it’s clear that lots of time and thought were put into the designs because each one looks polished.
